ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 Wins Four ABC Excellence in Construction Awards

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (August 17, 2020) — ÌìÃÀÂ鶹, a fully integrated firm focused on design, engineering, construction and mechanical services worldwide, has received four Excellence in Construction Awards from the Florida First Coast Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Winners were recognized on August 14 in a virtual award ceremony.

ABC recognized ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 with an Eagle Award, the program’s highest honor, for its renovation of Botts Hall at Jacksonville University. ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 demolished and upgraded 120 student residence rooms, as well as restrooms, open study areas, laundry facilities, community kitchens, lounge areas, reception areas and a rare Floridian basement. ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 also installed new flooring, lighting, plumbing fixtures and an upgraded mechanical system. Crews finished the project while working around athletic offices and an open wing of the building without interrupting operations. The Botts Hall project also received the Merit Choice Award for using the most ABC-member subcontractors of all the entrants.

ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 won a Pyramid Award for its construction of the Jacksonville University Health Science Complex. The three-story, 105,000 square foot academic building is home to Jacksonville University’s School of Orthodontics, as well as graduate nursing, speech therapy, kinesiology and health sciences programs and a student wellness center. ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 worked through multiple unforeseen delays and completed the project on time on a condensed construction schedule.

ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 won another Pyramid Award from ABC for its design, renovation and construction of the Ilima Pool at the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki, Hawaii, which serves military members, veterans and their families. The $13.8 million project included a 400-person pool shaped like a traditional Hawaiian war club with two water slides, children's splash pad, 20-person spa and raised stage for live music.

ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 also received a Pyramid award for its design-build and renovation of the Hale Koa Hotel roof and parking garage. Crews installed 21,280 square feet of new roofing and painted a Polynesian-inspired design on the lobby roof for guests in high rooms to look over. The 430-space, three-level parking garage had its parking bumpers replaced, spots re-striped and received extensive concrete repairs.

Despite two named storms affecting the Hawaiian islands during construction, both projects finished on schedule. Due to ÌìÃÀÂ鶹’s superior construction management, the Hale Koa Hotel’s operations were not interrupted. Additionally, nearly all building materials, landscaping and subcontractor crews were sourced from the island.
